Mood

I’m a strong believer that little things make a big difference.

Rewind to Tuesday morning. I didn’t get much sleep, hit the snooze at least 10 times and gave myself the biggest pep talk to head to a 6 am class.

Thankfully the workout re-energized me, but I wasn’t particularly feeling my 70 km drive.

As I finally arrived, I was surprised to hear music. As I walked closer to entrance, the music got louder.

And when I opened the door the salsa music was jamming.

I couldn’t help but smile and even break a little move.

Curious I asked the childcare director if this was a common morning ritual.

She was happy to share her discovery. She noticed mornings were tough for families.

So, she tried playing upbeat tunes in hope to change the mood.

And not surprisingly it worked.

She confessed parents now walk in smiling and sometimes dancing.

The simple act of playing music helps them to drop their shoulders and bad morning.

As I was shovelling heaps of snow on Friday and staring at the mountain the snowplough left me, I remembered the power of music.

I quickly cranked my favorite song and started shovelling snow like I was its boss. I even went an extra mile and chipped away the ice.

So, whenever you’re not feeling something remember the art of simplicity. Change your tunes to change your mood.

With all my love,

Alex
