Anything wrong with wanting to be first?

It depends in what context.

For example, let’s say Jason often loses his cool when he’s not first in line, or to answer the question or start the activity. Yes, this can become problematic. And we can focus on helping him increase his frustration tolerance.

But what if we focus on being first?

Like being the first one to:

·      smile

·      say hello

·      lend a helping hand

·      share something about

ourselves

·      ask them to play a game

·      sit next to them

·      say goodbye

·      bring up a common interest

·      show them something interesting, or

·      ask them what they’d like to do.

I repeat “be the first” every day. This mantra is simple, powerful, and easy to do.

But as we know sometimes the simplest things slip through our busy days. So, writing it down, placing it somewhere obvious or chatting about it with a colleague can fast track our commitment.

And then we can put first things first.

With my love,

Alex
